On April 15 local time, Wu Lei, Chairman of Shanghai Electric Group, held a meeting with Mohammad Abunayyan, Chairman of the Board of Saudi-based ACWA Power, to conduct in-depth discussions on deepening cooperation across multiple sectors.
Wu Lei expressed his gratitude for the long-standing understanding and support that ACWA Power has provided to Shanghai Electric. He stated that Shanghai Electric has been committed to driving the global energy transition and is dedicated to delivering green and clean energy projects worldwide. Looking ahead, Wu emphasized that Shanghai Electric will work with all parties to accelerate the progress of the Dubai project. Leveraging ACWA Power’s role as a communication bridge, the Group aims to use the Dubai project as a foundation to showcase Shanghai Electric’s achievements and capabilities in high-end equipment and green energy to clients across the Middle East and beyond. By complementing each other's strengths and pursuing coordinated development, the two sides can jointly explore broader opportunities in the international energy market.
Abunayyan welcomed Wu Lei and his delegation and introduced ACWA Power's development strategy. He noted that the successful execution of the Dubai CSP-PV hybrid project not only highlights the robust strength of "Made in China," but also showcases Shanghai Electric's outstanding capabilities in high-end equipment and energy project construction. In recent years, many Chinese companies, including Shanghai Electric, have invested and established operations in Saudi Arabia, contributing valuable expertise and effort to the realization of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Abunayyan expressed ACWA Power’s strong willingness to continue partnering with outstanding international companies like Shanghai Electric to achieve further breakthroughs in areas such as wind power, CSP-PV hybrid systems, energy storage, seawater desalination, and green hydrogen.
Prior to the meeting, ACWA Power and Shanghai Electric formally signed the temporary handover certificate for Unit 3 of the Dubai parabolic trough CSP project.
Attendees included Jin Xiaolong, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Shanghai Electric; Raad Al Saady, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of ACWA Power; and Marco Arcelli, CEO of ACWA Power.
