The COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan is of special concern to the Chinese people, including everyone at Shanghai Electric. After communication with the Wuhan Red Cross, Shanghai Electric announced on January 29 to donate seven CT scanners worth over RMB 24.75 million yuan for frontline disease diagnosis and treatment in Wuhan.

On January 31, the devices were sent to seven hospitals in Wuhan — Tongji Hospital affiliated to Tongji Medical College HUST, Hubei Provincial Hospital of TCM, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, the Third People's Hospital of Hubei Province, Wuhan No. 6 Hospital, the General Hospital in the Central Theater Command of People's Liberation Army of China, and Wuhan Huangpi District People Hospital. Five installation engineers were also sent to the provincial capital for field services.

The seven X-ray computed tomography scanners (including seven matching voltage stabilizers), provided by the group's subsidiary Kangda Medical Equipment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., allow better efficiency and accuracy in new coronavirus pneumonia imaging.

A wide gantry aperture allows easier examination of patients wearing protective suits and devices that monitor vital signs. An ultra-low metering volume allows rapid scanning and zero latency time, and HD iterative technique can render high-quality accurate images. A higher patient flow comes with less time required. In short, the scanner can quickly identify the signs of the new viral pneumonia, and greatly lower the probability of person-to-person transmission during the examination.

At the outbreak of the pandemic, Shanghai Electric has immediately established a "24-hour emergency response team" at Kangda, which moved swiftly to debug its production equipment and prepare necessary supplies for epidemic prevention. A 24-hour service line has been established to ensure quick supply across the country. More than 20 Kangda engineers have been deployed in Wuhan to provide comprehensive support services for local hospitals.

To effectively relieve hospital pressure and protect medical workers from contact infection, Kangda Medical has delivered 100+ mobile DR systems featuring wireless control & exposure, and remote diagnose to the fever clinics and isolation wards in Shanghai, Hubei, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, and Gansu.
