On the morning of June 30, the unveiling ceremony for the first blade in the Shanghai Electric Taonan Wind Power Industrial Park, themed “Wind Power in Taonan, Future of Green Electricity,” the unveiling ceremony of the complete equipment manufacturing and the signing and launching ceremony for the integrated green hydrogen project, took place in Taonan City, Jilin Province. Yang Dayong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Mayor of Baicheng City, Jilin, and Jin Xiaolong, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Shanghai Electric, witnessed the signing and launch of the integrated green hydrogen project in Taonan by Shanghai Electric. The first blade in the Shanghai Electric Taonan Wind Power Industrial Park was unveiled, and Shanghai Electric Wind Power Equipment (Jilin) Co., Ltd. was officially established.

At the ceremony, Shanghai Electric New Energy Development Co., Ltd. signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the People’s Government of Taonan City regarding the integrated project of green methanol production from wind power coupled with biomass. Aiming to convert wind energy into electricity, the project electrolyzes water to produce hydrogen and couples it with gasified biomass to produce green methanol. After the project is completed, it is expected to reduce environmental pollution caused by straw burning and become a “green new energy + green chemical” industrial chain project that enables local generation, light grid connection, and consumption of new energy. As the largest green methanol project in Jilin and the first biomass gasification-based green methanol project in Northeast China, it was included in Jilin’s hydrogen power action plan last year. It will support the high-quality development strategy of the province and the construction of “Land Three Gorges” in the west of Jilin.

The cooperation between Shanghai Electric and Taonan can be traced back to around 2021. Under the joint promotion of the management teams, the two parties signed the Shanghai Electric Equipment Manufacturing Industrial Park project in October 2021. In June of the following year, the construction of the Shanghai Electric Large-scale Blade Manufacturing project began in Taonan. The product from the Shanghai Electric Taonan Wind Power Industrial Park this time is the S98 blade, independently developed and manufactured by Shanghai Electric. This extra-long blade integrates advanced concepts and technologies such as blade and machine integration, system optimization based on power generation distribution, and efficient lightweight design of air operation and structure. The unveiling of this type of blade will also inject strong momentum into Taonan’s efforts to create a green equipment manufacturing base for the “dual-carbon” goals and build a “zero-carbon green city.”

At the same time, in order to deepen multi-field and more extensive cooperation, Shanghai Electric plans to establish a large-scale intelligent wind turbine manufacturing project and establish the Shanghai Electric Wind Power Equipment (Jilin) Co., Ltd. in Taonan. In collaboration with the Taonan city government and other partners, the company will build a manufacturing base for land-based 5.0 MW and above large-scale intelligent wind turbines, and build a wind power industry delivery ecosystem, which will help Taonan, and even the entire Jilin, complete the establishment, strengthening, and supplementation of the wind power industry chain.
