On August 19, the Fifth China-Arab States Expo was officially held in Yinchuan, Ningxia. At the event, Shanghai Electric focused on the concept of smart energy, intelligent manufacturing, and smart city, highlighting its products and solutions in the fields of concentrated solar power, photovoltaics, energy storage, seawater desalination, gas turbines, wind power, distributed energy, hydrogen energy, biomass and waste-to-energy, as well as its strength in project development, operation & maintenance, and financing. Among them, two concentrated solar power and photovoltaic mega-projects in Dubai from Shanghai Electric Power Generation Engineering Co., Ltd. attracted a great deal of attention.

The “3060 target”, which means “reaching peak CO2 emission by 2030” and “achieving carbon neutrality by 2060”, is the first major direction of energy reform proposed by China in 2020. Shanghai Electric keeps up with the requirements of energy transformation and upgrading under this new trend, and continues to contribute its new energy capabilities to China's energy system as a solution provider for industrial-grade green intelligent systems. China and the Arab States are natural partners for the Belt and Road initiative, with sustainable development being an important component. In recent years, Arab States have made great progress in the development of photovoltaics, wind power, nuclear power, and other clean energy sectors. Countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco are all representatives of the rapidly developing renewable energy market in the MENA region. Aside from showcasing the city image of Shanghai and the strength of Shanghai Electric at the Expo, Shanghai Electric will also seize the opportunities and continue to invest in the market of these Arab countries in the MENA region. Together with the Arab world, we look forward to building a clean and beautiful world and bringing the future forward.

The China-Arab States Energy Cooperation Summit forum was held through online and offline synchronization during the Expo. As a special guest, Shanghai Electric delivered a speech titled "Thoughts on the New Energy Project Development in the League of Arab States”. At the opening ceremony of the Expo, the "2020 Annual Report on the Development of China-Arab States Economic and Trade Relations" was also released, which specifically mentioned the case of Shanghai Electric's equipment and technology boosting the continuous advancement of China-Arab States low-carbon cooperation.

The Expo is a national and international exposition approved by the State Council and co-organized by the Ministry of Commerce, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and the People's Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It serves as an important platform of the joint efforts by both China and the Arab States for the "Belt and Road" initiative. Since 2013, four sessions have been successfully held in Ningxia, with 112 countries and regions, 21 Chinese and foreign political leaders, 283 Chinese and foreign ministerial guests, over 5,000 Chinese and foreign enterprises, and more than 40,000 domestic and foreign guests participating in and exhibiting at the Expo. A total of 936 cooperation projects of various kinds have been signed, which has effectively promoted the economic, trade, and investment exchanges and cooperation between China and the countries and regions along the "Belt and Road”, demonstrating the significance of the Expo to the initiative.
