On the morning of August 12, a kick-off meeting was held for the WorldSkills Competition undertaken by Shanghai Electric. Mr. Zhu Zhaokai, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee at Shanghai Electric, expected all functional departments and industrial groups to shoulder the responsibility of a state-owned enterprise, and show China's achievements in occupational skill training and Shanghai Electric's image as a high-end manufacturer. Mr. Zhu Bin, President of Shanghai Electromechanical Labor Union, was present at the meeting.

The 46th WorldSkills Competition will be held in Shanghai next September, and it is the first time the global event is held in the Chinese Mainland. Shanghai Electric, a major conglomerate of equipment manufacturing, is a base turning out highly skilled talents. Following the instructions of the Central Committee of the CPC and Shanghai Party Committee and People's Government, Shanghai Electric will ensure smooth candidate training, selection, and preparation through proper technical support and logistics, as guided by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and Shanghai Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. It will also undertake the competition on "industrial control" and "electrical installations".

Dubbed the "Olympics of Skills", the WorldSkills Competition is the highest-level match on occupational skill globally. Some 1,500 players from 82 member countries are estimated to rival each other in Shanghai in 2021.
