Every morning at 5:40, staff of the Huinan Station on Line 16 check in at the control room. After logging in the smart station system, they follow through the steps from turning on the lights to automatic system and communication checks. The station is illuminated, and equipment starts operation. The roller shutter door opens. All these steps are completed in about 5 minutes. Yet in the past, the indoor and outdoor equipment inspection would take nearly 1 hour.

Huinan Station is made smart by Shanghai Electric Automation Group as a pilot project. The smart transformation brings multiple benefits: boosted line capacity, optimized O&M efficiency, and lowered operating cost.

The new station has adopted many technologies never used before in China. The smart station monitoring system, developed by Shanghai Electric Automation Group, can accurately measure the number of passengers allowed in each time and display it on screen for precise traffic control with just one click.

A precise 3D station model is also leveraged for real-time equipment monitoring. Any failure can be immediately reported and visualized to realize real-time management. At the same time, a paperless office is supported.
