On May 14th, the 1st China Manufacturing Brand Development Forum with the theme “Prominent Brands Made in China” and the 9th “China Brand Economy (Shanghai) Forum” were held. Liu Ping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Shanghai Electric, and other guests delivered keynote speeches. They jointly discussed the experience of China’s manufacturing brand transformation and upgrading from the perspectives of outstanding products, prominent brands, leading innovation, and digital empowerment, and envisioned the continuous improvement in the value of Chinese brands.
Over the course of 121 years, Shanghai Electric has grown into a crucial advanced equipment manufacturer in China. As a global provider of industrial-grade green and intelligent solutions, Shanghai Electric currently specializes in three business fields: smart energy, intelligent manufacturing and digital intelligence integration. In the 2022 “China’s 500 Most Valuable Brands” list released by World Brand Lab, Shanghai Electric topped the machinery industry category again with a brand value of 161.739 billion yuan.
In his speech entitled “Build a Strong Manufacturing Country, Drive Technological Innovation, Uphold Open Cooperation and Win-Win, and Create a World-Class Equipment Enterprise Brand,” Liu Ping stated that Shanghai Electric adheres to the concept of building a strong manufacturing country as its own aspiration. With focusing on and serving national strategies as its responsibility, Shanghai Electric relies on core products and cutting-edge technology, shoulders the mission of manufacturing heavy equipment for the country and undertakes many tasks of the country against the “technology stranglehold”. It fills many gaps in the manufacturing of key components of major equipment for the country, and greatly promotes the independent R&D capability for domestic high-end manufacturing industry. Shanghai Electric has always put science and technology at the core of its brand strategy and taken innovation as the primary driving force for high-quality development. It pursues innovation-driven development in all respects, accelerates the achievement of high-level technological self-reliance, comprehensively enhances the enterprise’s green competitiveness, and strives to become a leader in attaining the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. Upholding openness and win-win at its core, Shanghai Electric has been promoting openness, coordination, win-win cooperation and integrated development to empower global industry, and has managed to transform from a major importer of high-end manufacturing technologies to China’s primary exporter of high-end equipment. At the same time, Shanghai Electric actively participates in the national “Belt and Road” Initiative and has undertaken more than 100 power engineering projects overseas. In the practice of international projects, it explores the construction and management models of Chinese projects overseas and accumulates valuable experience for Chinese enterprises going abroad.
Moving forward, Liu Ping said, Shanghai Electric, adhering to the principle of “openness, coordination and win-win cooperation”, will attract more and more clients, capital, government bodies, business and co-opetition partners to strongly boost the zero-carbon society construction and the high-quality development of the electricity industry.
At the event, the China Association for Quality released the China Manufacturing Brand Development Index (CMBDI), and the research team of the Shanghai Institute of Corporate Culture & Brand released the 2023 “TBB China Brand Value List.” Shanghai Electric ranked 95th on the list and 5th in the “TBB Shanghai Manufacturing Brand Value” sub-list. The forum also featured a roundtable on the “internationalization of Chinese manufacturing brands” to inspire more corporate managers on how to tell the story of Chinese brands to the world.
The “China Brand Economy (Shanghai) Forum” originated from the “department-city cooperation” project of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Shanghai Municipal Government. It is named and supported by the Shanghai Municipal Government Executive Meeting. After eight years, the Brand Economy Forum has become an influential high-end international brand event of China dedicated to public welfare. This year, the Brand Economy Forum, as part of the China Manufacturing Brand Development Forum, has been included as one of the important activities of the national “China Brand Day.”
