In January, Shanghai Electric Power Generation Equipment Co., Ltd. Generator Plant (hereinafter “Shanghai Generator Plant”) won the bid of the flexible bearing system for 250MW PV modules in Area A of Huayuan Power’s Derun 500 MW fishery-PV complementary smart energy project at Huanghua City, Hebei Province. With a total contract value of 2.5 billion yuan, the project marks Shanghai Generator Plant’s first PV order whose value exceeds 100 million yuan, and demonstrates that the bearing system developed by Shanghai Electric is recognized by the market shortly after its launch, which would adopt a fishery-PV complementary power generation model to build a salt pond-based PV plant.

The project can also support recreation and tourism businesses by acting as a landmark on the route, which will drive the development of fishery, energy and tourism concurrently. The power plant is designed to yield 500 million kWh of electricity every year with an installed capacity of 500MW. As a signature flexible bearing system project in China, it represents an important step forward for the PV bearing system sector, especially it enables the flexible system to be applied in much more scenarios and reinforces the diversified development of the PV bearing system sector.

At 20:29 on January 10, 2023, Unit 3 of the Fangchenggang nuclear power plant majorly owned by the China General Nuclear Power Corporation in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was connected to the grid for the first time as the first Hualong I reactor in Western China, signaling that the unit was capable of power generation and moved closer to the goal of commercial operation.

The plant is designed to have 6 units of 1000MW reactors which are estimated to produce 48 billion kWh of clean electricity every year after being completed, cutting the use of standard coal by 14.39 million tons and CO2 emission by 39.74 million tons in comparison with a coal-fired power plant of the same capacity. The two units of phase I has been put into commercial operation in 2016 and produced over 100 billion kWh of power accumulatively to the grid, and Unit 3 and Unit 4 of phase II are under construction as scheduled which are the Hualong I model adopting China’s 3rd-generation nuclear power technologies. Shanghai Electric Power Generation Group is the contractor and supplier of steam turbine generators installed in both phase I & II.

First Gas-Power Combined Power Project in Hunan Province

In January, Shanghai Electric and Hunan Xiangtou International Investment Co., Ltd. inked the procurement contract for power island equipment of the Xiangtou Hengdong 2×490MW gas-steam combined cycle power plant.

It is a major project in the 14th “Five-Year” energy development plan of Hunan Province as Hunan’s first gas-fired power plant, and is designed with two units of world-leading 9F gas turbines. It is estimated to produce 1.96 billion kWh of power and approximately cut the use of standard coal by 500,000 tons annually after it is put into operation, which will enormously increase the share of clean energy in Hunan’s total consumption, mitigate electricity supply shortage and help to lower load shedding.

In January, the digital and smart plant of Shanghai Tobacco Machinery Co., Ltd. that is completed by Shanghai Electric Digital Technology Co., Ltd. was officially launched after passing the acceptance inspection, showing that Shanghai Electric is capable of implementing a multi-campus interconnection networking scenario with its smart space and communication solution.

Based on whole-process security analysis, the plant enhances worksite security and efficiency through effective and customized management that allows the access of employees without carrying a pass and visitors with a single code. By automatically monitoring workshops around the clock, the plant exercises energy consumption control holistically, which improves manufacturing environment and work experience of on-site workers and reduces carbon emission. Meanwhile, bespoke tools like multifunctional material collaborative cabinets and smart screens boost lean management and reduce labor.

Stable Operation Achieved

In January, 40 wind turbines of the EPC wind project at Sonid Left Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, were hoisted and delivered to Beijing Energy Holding Co., Ltd. by Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Shanghai Electric Wind Power”), marking a new milestone after the large-scale operation of the onshore semi-direct drive Xcaliber platform. It indicates the platform has achieved stable operation as the leader of onshore compact semi-direct drive wind turbines.

Over the past few years, Shanghai Electric Wind Power has been focusing on the design of compact semi-direct drive turbines with in-depth researches conducted on core parts like the drive chain and blade, and successfully developed the Xcaliber platform supporting both onshore and offshore scenarios. Based on the platform, components with proven performance are substantially reused to ensure high product credibility and efficiency and timeliness and stability of product delivery. Since Xcaliber’s release, products based on it are tremendously recognized by the market, which are purchased by onshore wind power projects from over a dozen of provinces and wind fields.
