Shanghai Electric Projects Capture China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award

On November 20, the winners of the China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award were released by China Machinery Industry Federation (CMIF) and Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES). Eight Shanghai Electric projects were honored, including two special prizes, three second prizes, and three third prizes.

The "new-generation large-capacity phase modifier R&D and engineering", which was undertaken by Shanghai Electric Power Generation Equipment Co., Ltd. Generator Plant, brought home one special prize. The new phase modifier can offer dynamic reactive grid support and increase grid stability and security, which is vital to the large-scale application of ultra-high-voltage direct-current transmission and grid connection of new power. The other special prize winner is the "non-stationary load permanent magnet motor development and application" by Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group Co., Ltd. The project reveals the accumulative law of insulation deterioration for permanent magnet motors subject to non-stationary load and short-time superheated stress and comes up with the criteria to confirm partial demagnetization of the permanent magnet motor suffering short-time overcurrent in the thermal state. A new structure of permanent magnet motor with high power/torque density was invented. Relevant results have been applied in commercial design software programs at home and abroad, and motors developed have been used to power the development of high-speed rail, wind farm, aerospace engineering, subway, shield construction, and new energy vehicle.

Three second prizes were awarded to "new-generation supercritical 660MW turbine R&D and application" by Shanghai Electric Power Generation Group, "development and application of a new-type wet electro-static precipitator with ultra-low emission" by Shanghai Electric Power Generation Environment Protection Engineering Co., Ltd., and "key manufacturing technologies and application of super-large splicing marine crankshaft" by Shanghai Electric SHMP Casting & Forging Co., Ltd. Third prize winners included "development and application of new-generation supercritical 350MW two-cylinder two-exhaust turbine" by Shanghai Electric Power Generation Group, "key technologies and application of 16HP variable-frequency rotary compressor" by Shanghai Highly (Group) Co., Ltd., and "breakthrough of bearings for 160KM/h express trains" by Shanghai United Bearing Co., Ltd.

The China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award was set up by CMIF and CMES according to the "Regulations on Science and Technology Awards" and other applicable rules. Approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology and registered at competent authorities, the award is to honor outstanding technological achievements in the machinery industry.
